Moving Our Body Parts 2
Performance Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- mention skills of body movements;
- apply the skills of body movements;
- observe safety precautions in body movements.
Introduction to Body Movements
The human body can do many amazing things. It can move in different ways. These movements help people play, learn, and do daily tasks. Learning to move the body correctly and safely is important for staying healthy and strong.
Skills of Body Movements
Body movements are the different ways a person can move their body. These movements help people to change position, travel from one place to another, or interact with objects. Learning these basic movements helps the body grow strong and coordinated.
Some common skills of body movements include:
- Sitting: Sitting means resting the body on a surface, like a chair or the ground. When sitting, it is good to keep the back straight and the feet flat on the ground if possible.
- Standing: Standing means holding the body upright on the feet. When standing, the body should be balanced, with the shoulders relaxed and the head held high.
- Walking: Walking is moving from one place to another by putting one foot in front of the other. It is a natural way to travel short distances.
- Bending: Bending means curving the body or a part of the body, usually at the waist or knees. Bending helps to pick up objects from the ground or tie shoelaces.
- Running: Running is a faster way of moving than walking. It involves quick steps and a slight jump between each step. Running helps people move quickly and is a good exercise.
- Jumping: Jumping means pushing off the ground with both feet and landing back down. People can jump up high or jump forward.
- Stepping: Stepping means lifting one foot and placing it down in a new position. It is a small movement, often used to adjust position or move slowly.
- Hopping: Hopping means jumping on one foot. It is a fun way to move and helps with balance.
Applying Body Movement Skills
Applying body movement skills means using these movements in different situations. It is important to perform these movements correctly and with good balance. Good balance helps prevent falls and makes movements easier.
How to Perform Basic Body Movements Correctly
Performing movements correctly helps the body stay strong and avoids injury. Here are steps for some basic movements:
- Sitting Correctly:
- Stand in front of a chair or clear space on the ground.
- Slowly lower the body, bending the knees.
- Gently sit down, keeping the back straight.
- Place the feet flat on the ground if sitting on a chair.
- Standing Correctly:
- From a sitting position, push up with the legs.
- Straighten the body, keeping the back straight.
- Balance the weight evenly on both feet.
- Keep the head up and look forward.
- Walking Correctly:
- Stand tall with the head up and shoulders relaxed.
- Swing the arms gently as each leg moves forward.
- Place one foot in front of the other, heel first, then toes.
- Keep a steady pace and look where the body is going.
- Bending Correctly:
- Stand with feet slightly apart.
- Bend the knees slightly and keep the back straight.
- Lower the upper body by bending at the waist.
- Use the leg muscles to stand back up.
- Running Correctly:
- Start from a standing position.
- Push off the ground with the feet.
- Lift the knees high and swing the arms forward and backward.
- Land lightly on the balls of the feet.
- Jumping Correctly:
- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
- Bend the knees slightly and swing the arms back.
- Push off the ground with both feet at the same time.
- Land softly on both feet, bending the knees to absorb the landing.
Safety Precautions for Body Movements
When moving the body, it is very important to be safe. Safety precautions help prevent accidents and injuries. Following these rules keeps everyone healthy while exercising or playing.
Important safety tips include:
- Wearing appropriate sportswear: Clothes should be comfortable and allow the body to move freely. Shoes should fit well and have good grip to prevent slipping.
- Not overstretching: The body should not be pushed too hard. Stretching gently is good, but forcing the body into uncomfortable positions can cause pain or injury.
- Not exercising on a wet floor: Wet floors are slippery and can cause falls. Always choose a dry and safe area for movements and exercises.
- Following the instructions of the teacher: Teachers give instructions to keep everyone safe. Listening carefully and doing what the teacher says is very important during any physical activity.
