What Are Health and Hygiene?

Health means being strong and free from sickness. When a person is healthy, they feel good and can play and learn well.

Hygiene means keeping the body and surroundings clean to stay healthy. It involves good habits that stop germs from making people sick.

General Body Cleanliness

General body cleanliness means keeping all parts of the body clean. This helps to remove dirt, sweat, and germs that can cause sickness or bad smell. Regular cleaning makes a person feel fresh and healthy.

Bathing and Care of the Skin

Bathing is washing the body with water and soap. It removes dirt, sweat, and germs from the skin. Taking a bath every day helps to keep the skin clean and healthy.

After bathing, the skin should be dried with a clean towel. Applying body cream or lotion helps to keep the skin soft and smooth.

The procedure for bathing involves the following steps:

  1. Gather materials: a bucket of clean water, soap, a sponge, and a clean towel.
  2. Wet the body with water.
  3. Apply soap to the sponge and rub it all over the body.
  4. Scrub the body gently with the soapy sponge, paying attention to all parts.
  5. Rinse off all the soap with clean water.
  6. Dry the body thoroughly with a clean towel.
  7. Apply body cream or lotion to the skin.

Teeth Brushing

Brushing the teeth cleans food particles and germs from the mouth. This helps to prevent tooth decay and bad breath. Teeth should be brushed at least twice a day, in the morning and before going to bed.

There are different tools for brushing teeth:

  1. Chewing Stick: This is a natural stick used to clean teeth. It is chewed until it becomes soft and brush-like, then used to scrub the teeth.
  2. Toothbrush and Paste: A toothbrush has bristles that clean the teeth, and toothpaste helps to remove germs and make the mouth fresh.

The procedure for brushing teeth with a toothbrush and paste involves the following steps:

  1. Wet the toothbrush with water.
  2. Put a small amount of toothpaste on the toothbrush.
  3. Brush the outer surfaces of the teeth with gentle, circular motions.
  4. Brush the inner surfaces of the teeth.
  5. Brush the chewing surfaces of the teeth.
  6. Brush the tongue gently to remove germs and freshen breath.
  7. Rinse the mouth thoroughly with clean water.
  8. Rinse the toothbrush and store it properly.

Cutting of Nails

Nails can collect dirt and germs under them, which can enter the body when eating. Keeping nails short and clean helps to prevent sickness. Nails should be cut regularly using a nail cutter.

Important safety tips for cutting nails include:

  1. Always ask an adult to help cut nails, especially for young children.
  2. Use a clean nail cutter.
  3. Cut nails straight across to avoid ingrown nails.
  4. Do not cut too deep into the nail bed.
  5. Wash hands with soap and water after cutting nails.

Hair Maintenance

Hair maintenance means keeping the hair clean and neat. Dirty hair can have lice or cause an itchy scalp. Clean hair looks good and feels comfortable.

Hair should be washed regularly with shampoo and water. After washing, it should be combed and styled neatly. Hair cream or oil can be applied to keep the hair soft and healthy.

The procedure for hair care involves the following steps:

  1. Wet the hair with water.
  2. Apply shampoo to the hair and gently rub it into the scalp.
  3. Rinse the hair thoroughly with clean water until all shampoo is gone.
  4. Dry the hair with a clean towel.
  5. Comb the hair gently to remove tangles.
  6. Apply a small amount of hair cream or oil to keep the hair soft and shiny.

Benefits of General Body Cleanliness

Keeping the body clean has many good benefits. These benefits help a person stay healthy and feel good.

The benefits of general body cleanliness include:

  1. Prevents skin infections and conditions: Cleanliness stops germs from causing problems like rashes or itching on the skin. For example, it helps prevent conditions like acne and eczema.
  2. Maintains healthy skin: When the body is clean, the skin stays smooth, soft, and free from dirt that can block pores.
  3. Promotes feelings of freshness and rejuvenation: A clean body feels fresh and makes a person feel new and full of energy.
  4. Improves sleep quality: Going to bed clean and fresh helps a person sleep better and wake up feeling rested.
  5. Prevents gum disease and bad breath: Brushing teeth regularly removes food particles and germs that cause bad breath and can harm the gums.
