Responsible Parenting
Performance Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- define responsible parenting;
- list the characteristics of responsible parenting.
Meaning of Responsible Parenting
Responsible parenting means that parents take good care of their children.
It means parents make sure their children are safe, healthy, and happy. They also help their children learn good things. Parents provide for their children’s needs and teach them how to grow into good people in the family and community.
Characteristics of Responsible Parenting
Responsible parents do many important things for their children. These actions are called characteristics of responsible parenting. They show how parents care for and guide their children every day.
Nurturing
Nurturing means parents give their children love, care, and protection.
This includes providing food, clean water, clothes, and a safe home for children. Parents also comfort their children when they are sad, sick, or hurt. They show affection and make sure their children feel loved and secure.
Educating
Educating means parents teach their children important things and help them learn.
This involves sending children to school so they can learn to read, write, and count. Parents also teach their children good manners, how to be respectful to elders, and how to tell the difference between right and wrong. They help with homework and encourage learning at home by reading together.
Role Modelling
Role modelling means parents show good behaviour for their children to learn from and copy.
Children learn a lot by watching what their parents do and say. Responsible parents show kindness, honesty, hard work, and respect for others in the home and community. When parents act well, their children learn to act well too.
