Civic Responsibilities

Performance Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. define civic responsibilities;
  2. state the importance of civic responsibilities.

Meaning of Civic Responsibilities

Civic responsibilities are the duties that people have towards their community and country.

These duties are important actions that help to make the community a good place for everyone to live. When people understand and do their part, the community becomes stronger, safer, and better for all who live there.

Importance of Civic Responsibilities

Civic responsibilities are very important because they help to keep homes, schools, and communities safe, clean, and orderly. When everyone takes part in these duties, life becomes better and more enjoyable for all people.

Orderliness

Orderliness means doing things in a proper and organised way. It helps to prevent confusion and makes sure everything runs smoothly in a community.

For example, when people queue up to buy things at a shop or to board a bus, they are showing orderliness. This helps to make sure everyone gets a turn without pushing, shouting, or fighting. Orderliness helps to keep peace and fairness.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities mean doing the tasks or duties that are expected of a person. Everyone has a role to play in the home, school, and community to make things work well.

For example, a child has the responsibility to do their homework, help with chores at home, and obey rules at school. Adults have responsibilities to work, care for their families, and pay taxes to help the community. When everyone does their part, the community thrives.

Cleanliness

Cleanliness means keeping places neat and free from dirt. A clean environment is healthy and pleasant for everyone to live in.

People show cleanliness by not littering, sweeping their surroundings, and disposing of waste properly in dustbins. This helps to prevent sickness, keeps the air fresh, and makes the community look beautiful and inviting.

Respect for Public Properties

Public properties are things that belong to everyone in the community. Examples include schools, hospitals, parks, roads, public taps, and streetlights.

Respect for public properties means taking good care of these things and not damaging them. When people respect public properties, these shared resources last longer and can be used by many people for a long time. This helps the whole community.

For example, children should not write on school walls or break chairs in the classroom. Everyone should use public taps carefully and not waste water. Damaging public property harms everyone.
