People, Places and Objects We Should Respect

Performance Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. define respect;
  2. identify people, places and things to respect.

What is Respect?

Respect means to show care and honour for someone or something. It means treating others and things with kindness and value.

When a person shows respect, they act in a way that shows they value someone’s feelings, opinions, or belongings. It also means valuing places and objects.

People to Respect

Many people in life deserve respect. These are people who care for others, teach others, or guide others.

Examples of people to respect include:

  1. Parents and guardians
  2. Teachers
  3. Elders (older people)
  4. Community leaders
  5. Friends and classmates

Showing respect to people means listening when they speak, speaking politely, and obeying good instructions. It also means being kind to everyone, no matter their age or position.

Places to Respect

Some places are very important and should be treated with care and honour. These places are often used by many people or hold special meaning.

Examples of places to respect include:

  1. The home
  2. The school
  3. Places of worship (churches, mosques)
  4. Hospitals
  5. Public places like markets and parks

Showing respect for places means keeping them clean, following rules, and not damaging anything. For example, in school, pupils should not litter or write on walls. In a place of worship, people should be quiet and orderly.

Objects to Respect

Many objects around us are important and should be handled with care. Some objects help people learn, while others are symbols of the country or belong to others.

Examples of objects to respect include:

  1. Books and school materials
  2. National flag
  3. School property (desks, chairs, teaching aids)
  4. Personal belongings (toys, clothes)
  5. Tools and equipment

Showing respect for objects means handling them carefully, keeping them clean, and not breaking them. For example, books should not be torn or written on. The national flag should be treated with honour because it represents the country.
