The National Examinations Council has released the NECO 2026 results for the Senior School Certificate Examination Internal, putting more than 1.37 million candidates in a position to see the grades that may determine their next admission move. NECO says 804,948 candidates — 58.67 per cent of those who sat — obtained at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

A total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination and 1,371,992 sat it. NECO also reported that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics. Those two percentages measure different things, and candidates should not confuse them.

Why 84.70% and 58.67% Are Both Correct

The 84.70 per cent figure counts candidates who obtained five credits whether or not English and Mathematics were among them. The 58.67 per cent figure applies to candidates whose five or more credits specifically include both English Language and Mathematics. For many tertiary courses, the actual required O’Level combination matters more than the national pass percentage, so candidates should check every subject grade individually.

The examination ran from June 15 to July 23, while marking took place between August 17 and September 4. NECO said the results were released 63 days after the last paper. The Council also reported 1,406 candidates involved in malpractice cases, down from 3,878 in 2025, representing a 64.74 per cent reduction.

Candidates can check their results on NECO’s official result portal. The process requires selecting the examination year and examination type, entering a valid result-checking token and providing the registration number before choosing the option to check the result. Candidates who do not already have a token can purchase one through the official system.

What to Do After Checking Your Result

Candidates currently seeking tertiary admission should compare their NECO grades with the O’Level requirements for their chosen course. Those who were waiting for NECO before admission processing should also make sure the result is uploaded or reflected where required by JAMB and the institution. Simply having the result on NECO’s portal does not automatically make it visible to an admissions system.

Anyone who finds an unexpected grade should first make sure the correct examination type, year and registration number were used. Candidates should avoid paying social-media accounts that claim they can alter grades or “upgrade” a result. Legitimate result records are controlled by NECO, and candidates should use official support channels for genuine problems.

The NECO 2026 results are now a live part of the 2026/2027 admission season. For candidates, the important question is no longer only whether the national pass rate rose or fell, but whether their own subject combination satisfies the next academic step they plan to take.

NECO 2026 result statistics candidates should understand

NECO says 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 SSCE Internal and 1,371,992 eventually sat. A total of 804,948 candidates — 58.67% — obtained five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics. A much larger 1,162,118 candidates — 84.70% — obtained five credits and above irrespective of whether English and Mathematics were among them.

Those percentages are not contradictory. The 84.70% figure answers “How many candidates got at least five credits?” The 58.67% figure answers the stricter question “How many got at least five credits with both English and Mathematics included?” For admission, the candidate’s exact course requirement matters more than either national percentage.

NECO also reported 1,406 candidates involved in malpractice cases, down from 3,878 in 2025, and said 1,334 candidates with special needs participated. Candidates should treat the released result as a personal academic record, not merely as part of a national pass-rate debate.

How to check the result, buy a token and use it for admission

  1. Go directly to NECO Results.
  2. Select 2026 as the examination year and choose SSCE Internal for the school-candidate result.
  3. Enter a valid result-checking token. If you do not already have one, use the Purchase Token option on the same official platform rather than buying a code from a social-media seller.
  4. Enter the registration number exactly as printed on the candidate’s NECO documents.
  5. Click “Check my result”, then save and print the result when it loads.

Candidates seeking 2026/2027 tertiary admission should then check their JAMB e-Facility/CAPS record. JAMB has specifically urged candidates who were waiting for the 2026 NECO result to make sure their O’Level credentials are uploaded or verified so institutions can use them during admission processing. A result appearing on NECO’s website does not automatically mean an institution has received it through JAMB.

Before paying anyone for an “upgrade”, remember that legitimate admission systems verify examination records. A fabricated or altered printout does not change NECO’s database. If the result displays an obvious identity or access problem, use NECO’s official support channels rather than surrendering the candidate’s token and registration number to a stranger.
