Students looking for a Direct Entry pathway into university still have active JUPEB 2026 admission opportunities, but deadlines differ sharply from one institution to another. There is no single national closing date that candidates can safely use for every JUPEB study centre or university.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s official JUPEB application portal currently lists October 31, 2026 at 11:59pm as its closing time. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka is also advertising its 2026/2027 JUPEB programme, which leads to a JUPEB certificate that can support Direct Entry admission into degree programmes at UNN and other affiliated universities.

What JUPEB Actually Offers

JUPEB is an advanced-level programme rather than another UTME. Candidates complete an academic programme and sit the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board examination. A successful result can then be used for Direct Entry consideration into the 200 level of eligible degree programmes, subject to each university’s admission requirements.

At UNN, applicants are expected to have at least five O’Level credits obtained in no more than two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics and subjects relevant to the intended course. The programme runs for a minimum of one academic session of two semesters. Subject combinations are organised according to the candidate’s intended discipline.

Candidates should choose a JUPEB centre carefully. The name “JUPEB” is frequently used in online advertisements, but applicants should verify that the programme is being offered through a recognised university or authorised centre and should pay through the institution’s official procedure.

JUPEB Does Not Remove the Need for JAMB Direct Entry

A JUPEB certificate is not the final admission by itself. Universities still process Direct Entry admissions, and candidates normally need to participate in the applicable JAMB Direct Entry process for the admission year in which they seek entry. UNN’s programme information specifically points successful programme candidates toward the relevant Direct Entry route.

Before applying, students should compare the subject combination with the degree they want, the institution’s Direct Entry rules and the cost of the full programme — not only the application fee. A wrong combination can leave a candidate with an A-Level result that does not fit the intended course.

The most important lesson from the current JUPEB 2026 admission season is that deadlines are institution-specific. UNIZIK’s October 31 date should not be assumed to apply to UNN or another university. Candidates should verify each university directly and apply before its own portal closes.

UNN JUPEB 2026/2027: full eligibility, subject combinations and duration

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka says its 2026/2027 JUPEB programme leads to the award of a JUPEB certificate that can be used for Direct Entry consideration into degree programmes at UNN and other JUPEB-affiliated universities in Nigeria and abroad. The programme lasts a minimum of one academic session of two semesters.

Eligible candidates must possess a minimum of five O’Level credits obtained in not more than two sittings. The credits must include Mathematics, English Language and the other subjects relevant to the candidate’s intended university course.

UNN’s current admission notice lists the following combinations for the 2026/2027 intake: Arts: Government/Literature-in-English/CRS. Social Sciences: Government/Literature/CRS; Government/Economics/CRS or IRS; Government/Economics/Mathematics; Biology/Economics/Government, with the university’s separate JUPEB admission-requirement page also publishing additional Social Science combinations such as Government/Economics/Geography and Economics/Geography/Mathematics. Management Sciences: Government/Economics/Mathematics, while the dedicated JUPEB requirements page also lists Accounts/Business Studies/Economics and Business Studies/Economics/Mathematics. Sciences: Physics/Chemistry/Biology; Biology/Chemistry/Economics; Physics/Biology/Mathematics; Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics; Physics/Economics/Mathematics, with further variants such as Chemistry/Physics/Geography and Physics/Geography/Mathematics shown on the dedicated requirements page.

UNN application fee and the exact application procedure

The UNN application fee is ₦20,000, excluding applicable bank charges. Payment is made through Remita after the applicant generates the invoice from the UNN portal. UNN warns that JUPEB application and payment are strictly through the university portal/Remita and not through an individual bank account.

  1. Visit unnportal.unn.edu.ng.
  2. Click “Generate Payment Invoice” under JUPEB.
  3. Enter a working telephone number and submit.
  4. Enter surname, first name and middle name exactly as they appear on the applicant’s NIN, then submit.
  5. Print the invoice containing the Remita information and make the ₦20,000 application payment through the approved Remita/bank route.
  6. After payment, return to the UNN portal.
  7. Click the option to fill the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board Programme application.
  8. Enter the Remita number and submit to open the form.
  9. Complete the form and upload a recent colour passport photograph on a white background.
  10. UNN says the photograph should have been taken not earlier than three months before the application and should not exceed 100KB.
  11. Review the form carefully, especially names and subject combination, then submit.
  12. Print the acknowledgement slip and keep it.

UNN further warns applicants to follow the instructions carefully and use the correct names as they appear on NIN. The university says the form should be completed and submitted online immediately or within two weeks of accessing the website; downloaded or printed forms are not accepted as a substitute for the online submission.

All prospective UNN JUPEB candidates are also expected to register for 2027 JAMB Direct Entry at the appropriate time. A JUPEB result does not bypass JAMB’s Direct Entry process. UNN lists the JUPEB ICT Manager contact as 07037597919 and the email as jupeb@unn.edu.ng for further enquiries.

UNIZIK is another current JUPEB option

Nnamdi Azikiwe University also has an active 2026/2027 JUPEB portal at apply.jupeb.unizik.edu.ng. The live portal currently states that applications close on October 31, 2026 at 11:59pm. Candidates should treat each university’s deadline, fee and subject-combination rules separately; an UNN instruction does not automatically apply to UNIZIK.

The safest rule for JUPEB is to use a university-owned or officially authorised portal, verify the O’Level and subject-combination requirements before payment and keep every acknowledgement. Avoid an “agent” who asks for the application fee in a personal account or promises guaranteed 200-level admission. JUPEB creates a Direct Entry pathway, but final university admission remains subject to the institution’s requirements, available capacity and JAMB processing.
