Being Children of God

God is our Father. When we believe in Him and follow His ways, we become His children. Just like children in a family have duties, children of God also have things they must do. One important thing we must do is to praise God.

Memory Verse

The memory verse for this lesson reminds us to praise God:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” (Psalm 103:1)

Bible Reading

The Bible teaches us many things about praising God. These passages help us understand why and how to praise Him:

  1. Psalm 103
  2. Psalm 146
  3. Psalm 148:5
  4. Psalm 150
  5. Luke 2:29-32

Praising God Our Father

Praising God means telling Him how wonderful He is. It means thanking Him for all His goodness and showing Him how much we love Him. We can praise God with our words, our songs, and our actions.

Reciting Psalm 103:1-2

Psalm 103:1-2 teaches us to praise God with all our heart. It says:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

This means we should remember all the good things God has done for us and praise Him for them.

People in the Bible Who Praised God

Many people in the Bible praised God. They sang songs and spoke words of praise to Him. Some of these people include:

  1. David: He was a king who wrote many psalms, which are songs and prayers of praise to God.
  2. Moses: After God saved the Israelites from Egypt, Moses and the people sang a song of praise to God.
  3. Hannah: She prayed to God for a child, and when God answered her prayer, she sang a beautiful song of praise.
  4. Miriam: She was Moses’ sister, and she led the women in singing and dancing to praise God after they crossed the Red Sea.
  5. Simeon: When Jesus was a baby, Simeon saw Him in the temple and praised God, saying he could now die in peace because he had seen the Saviour (Luke 2:29-32).
  6. Mary: When she learned she would be the mother of Jesus, Mary sang a song of praise to God, thanking Him for His great favour.

Reasons for Praising God

There are many good reasons why we should praise God. Some of these reasons include:

  1. Gratitude: We praise God because we are thankful for everything He does for us. He gives us life, family, friends, food, clothes, and a safe place to live. Being grateful means showing thanks for these gifts.
  2. Appreciation for more blessings: When we praise God for what He has already done, it shows we appreciate His goodness. This also shows our faith that He will continue to bless us and do even more wonderful things in our lives.

Singing Praises to God

Singing is a wonderful way to praise God. Many songs of praise are found in the Bible, and we also sing hymns and other praise songs in church and at home. When we sing praises, we use our voices to tell God how great He is and how much we love Him.

The skill of singing praises to God involves:

  1. Learning songs that praise God.
  2. Singing with a joyful heart.
  3. Understanding the words of the song and what they mean about God.

Singing praises helps us feel closer to God and reminds us of His love and power.
