Meaning of Jesus and Emmanuel
The name Jesus is very special. It tells us something important about Him.
Jesus means “The Lord saves” or “God saves”.
This name was given to Him because He came to save people from their sins. The Bible tells us in Matthew 1:21 that Mary would have a son, and His name would be Jesus, because He would save His people from their sins.
Another special name for Jesus is Emmanuel.
Emmanuel means “God with us”.
This name shows us that God came to be with us through Jesus. Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:22-23 tell us about this name. It means God is always close to us through Jesus.
Jesus Our Lord and Saviour
Jesus is called our Lord and Saviour. He is our Lord because He is powerful and leads us. He is our Saviour because He saves us.
Jesus saves us from our sins. Sin is anything we do that is wrong and displeases God. When we do wrong things, it separates us from God. Jesus came to take away our sins so we can be close to God again.
Isaiah 53:5 tells us that Jesus was hurt for our wrongdoings and by His wounds, we are healed. This means He suffered so that we can be saved and made whole.
Hebrews 9:22 teaches us that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins. Jesus shed His blood when He died on the cross to forgive our sins.
Saving Acts of Jesus
Jesus showed us He is our Saviour through many things He did. These are called His saving acts. They help us in today’s world.
By His Teachings
Jesus taught people how to live good lives. He taught about loving God and loving our neighbours. He taught us to forgive others, to be kind, and to help those in need. His teachings guide us to do what is right and please God.
Luke 4:18-21 shows that Jesus came to preach good news to the poor and to tell captives they are free. His words bring hope and change lives.

By His Deliverance
Jesus delivered people from sickness and evil spirits. He healed the blind, made the lame walk, and cast out demons. This showed His power over all bad things that trouble people.
Luke 4:18-21 also mentions that Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and give sight to the blind. Mark 1:38 shows Jesus preaching and casting out demons in many places.
Even today, Jesus can deliver us from sickness, fear, and bad habits when we pray to Him and trust in His power.

By His Death
The most important saving act of Jesus was His death on the cross. He died for our sins. This means He took the punishment for all the wrong things we have done, so we do not have to.
John 19:16-18 describes how Jesus was crucified on a cross. His death was a sacrifice to make us right with God.
Because Jesus died for us, we can ask God for forgiveness, and our sins will be washed away. This gives us a chance to start fresh and live a new life.
By His Resurrection
After Jesus died, He rose from the dead on the third day. This is called His resurrection. His resurrection shows that He is truly God and has power over death.
The empty tomb is a sign that Jesus is alive. Because He rose, we also have hope for new life and eternal life with God.
Jesus’ resurrection means that death is not the end. It gives us hope that we too can live forever with God if we believe in Him. His saving acts, from His teachings to His death and resurrection, still save us and give us hope in today’s world.
