Performance Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. explain the meaning of man’s creation;
  2. state the purpose of man’s creation;
  3. identify ways of utilising the purpose of man’s creation in their daily life activities.

Meaning of Man’s Creation in Islam

Man’s creation in Islam means that Allah, the Almighty God, created human beings from nothing. Allah is the Creator of everything in the universe. This includes the heavens, the earth, the animals, plants, and all people.

Allah created Adam, the first man, from clay. From Adam, He created Hawwa (Eve), the first woman. All human beings today are descendants of Adam and Hawwa. Allah created humans with unique abilities. These abilities include the power to think, reason, choose, and communicate.

The Holy Qur’an on Man’s Creation

The Holy Qur’an teaches Muslims about the purpose of human creation. A very important verse that explains this is from Surah Adh-Dhariyat.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

This means: “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.” (Surah Adh-Dhariyat, 51:56)

This verse clearly tells Muslims the main reason why Allah created humans. It is to worship Him alone.

Purpose of Man’s Creation

The main purpose of man’s creation, as taught in Islam, is to worship Allah. Worship in Islam is not just about performing Salat (prayer) five times a day. It is a much wider concept that includes everything a person does to please Allah.

Worship means:

  1. Obeying Allah’s Commands: Doing what Allah has asked Muslims to do and avoiding what He has forbidden.
  2. Remembering Allah: Always being aware of Allah’s presence and His blessings in our lives.
  3. Being Grateful: Thanking Allah for all the good things He has given us.
  4. Doing Good Deeds: Treating others kindly, helping those in need, and being fair and just.
  5. Living a Righteous Life: Striving to be a good person in all aspects of life, at home, at school, and in the community.

The purpose of human creation is to live a life dedicated to Allah, showing love and obedience to Him through all actions.

Utilising the Purpose of Man’s Creation in Daily Life

Muslims can fulfil the purpose of their creation by making sure their daily activities are done in a way that pleases Allah. Every good action can become an act of worship if done with the right intention.

Ways of utilising the purpose of man’s creation in daily life activities include:

  1. Performing Salat (Prayer): Praying five times a day is the most important act of worship. It connects Muslims directly to Allah.
  2. Reading and Understanding the Qur’an: Reading the Holy Qur’an and trying to understand its message helps Muslims know Allah’s commands and guidance.
  3. Being Kind and Respectful: Treating parents, elders, teachers, friends, and everyone with kindness and respect is a form of worship.
  4. Helping Others: Assisting family members with chores, helping classmates with their studies, or giving charity to the needy are all acts of worship.
  5. Studying Hard: Learning and gaining knowledge is important in Islam. Studying diligently at school to become a useful member of society is a way of worshipping Allah.
  6. Keeping Clean: Maintaining personal hygiene and keeping homes, schools, and the environment clean is also an act of worship, as “cleanliness is half of faith.”
  7. Being Honest and Truthful: Always speaking the truth and being honest in all dealings, whether at play or at work, pleases Allah.
  8. Protecting the Environment: Taking care of plants, animals, and the natural world is a responsibility given by Allah and a form of worship.
  9. Eating Halal Food: Eating food that is permissible in Islam and thanking Allah for His provisions.
  10. Remembering Allah (Dhikr): Saying “Alhamdulillah” (Praise be to Allah), “Subhanallah” (Glory be to Allah), and “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest) throughout the day.

By doing these things, Muslims live their lives according to the purpose for which Allah created them, earning His pleasure and rewards.
