Performance Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. describe obedience to Allah (S.W.T); obedience to parents and elders;
  2. list some Islamic rules of conducts;
  3. state the benefits of being obedient to Allah (S.W.T), His prophets (A.S) and elders.

What is Obedience?

Obedience means listening carefully and doing what is right. It means following instructions and rules given by those who care for us and know what is best.

In Islam, obedience is very important. It helps us to live a good life and makes Allah (S.W.T) happy.

Obedience to Allah (S.W.T)

Allah (S.W.T) is our Creator. He made everything and everyone. He knows what is best for us. To obey Allah (S.W.T) means to follow His commands and avoid what He has forbidden.

Examples of obeying Allah (S.W.T) include:

  1. Praying five times a day.
  2. Reading the Qur’an.
  3. Being kind to others.
  4. Telling the truth.
  5. Keeping clean.

When children obey Allah (S.W.T), they show their love for Him and earn great rewards.

Obedience to Parents and Elders

Parents are a great blessing from Allah (S.W.T). They love children, care for them, and teach them good things. Elders are older people in the family and community who have wisdom and experience.

To obey parents and elders means to listen to their advice, help them, and speak to them with respect. It means doing what they ask, as long as it is good and does not go against the commands of Allah (S.W.T).

Examples of obeying parents and elders include:

  1. Helping with chores at home.
  2. Listening when they speak.
  3. Greeting them politely.
  4. Not interrupting them.
  5. Doing homework when asked.

Memory Verse

The Qur’an teaches us about the importance of obeying Allah (S.W.T) and being kind to our parents. Our memory verse is from Surah Al-Isra.

Surah Al-Isra (17): Ayah 23

وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَـٰنًا

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And to parents, show kindness.

Qur’an Reading

The Holy Qur’an is the word of Allah (S.W.T). It guides us on how to live our lives. We learn from the Qur’an that we must worship only Allah (S.W.T) and be good to our parents and all people.

The verse from Surah Al-Isra (17): Ayah 23 reminds us of these important duties. Reading the Qur’an helps us understand more about obedience and good conduct.

Islamic Rules of Conduct

Islam teaches us good manners and rules for how to behave in different situations. These rules help us to be clean, polite, and respectful.

The Du’a for entering the toilet is:

بِسْمِ اللهِ اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْ اَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَآئِثِ

Meaning: In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female evil spirits.

When coming out of the toilet:

  1. Step out with the right foot first.
  2. Say the Du’a after coming out.
  3. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.

The Du’a for exiting the toilet is:

غُفْرَانَكَ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِىْ اَذْهَبَ عَنِّى الْاَذٰى وَعَافَانِىْ

Meaning: I seek Your forgiveness. All praise is due to Allah who has removed from me the discomfort and given me health.

Benefits of Being Obedient

Being obedient to Allah (S.W.T), His Prophets (A.S), parents, and elders brings many good things into our lives. These benefits include:

  1. Allah’s Love: Allah (S.W.T) loves obedient children and rewards them.
